Using ICT Objective
💻This year our objective for 'Using ICT' is that:
By June 2026, pupils will demonstrate improved digital citizenship while continuing to embed their digital art skills. In addition, they will develop a stronger awareness of online safety to support their overall wellbeing.
To help us achieve this, pupils from P1 to P7 will be taking part in Common Sense Education’s Digital Citizenship lessons in Term 2 and 3. These lessons will teach children how to be responsible digital citizens—people who use the internet and technology safely, respectfully and responsibly. They will learn how to make good choices online, protect themselves and others, show kindness and understand the impact of their digital footprint.
For our younger classes, this will be introduced through the Digital Citizens characters, which have been beautifully painted on the ICT Suite wall by Ms McShane. Each character represents an important principle:
• Head – Think with your head
• Feet – Make good tracks with your feet
• Gut – Listen to your gut
• Arms – Balance with your arms
• Heart – Feel with your heart
• Legs – Stand up with your legs
As part of our Safer Internet Week, the children will have the opportunity to design Newcastle Primary School’s very own Digital Citizen. This will be a competition where pupils can showcase their creativity and digital art skills by creating their own unique digital citizen.
As your child participates in these lessons, you will receive updates about the topics covered. We kindly ask for your support in reinforcing these messages at home. Thank you!
