💻 Safer Internet Week💻
This week in school, we are holding our first ever Safer Internet Week. In previous years we have celebrated Safer Internet Day, but this year we felt it was important to dedicate more time to teaching pupils about staying safe online. Our focus will be how to be good digital citizens as well as exploring the safe, responsible use of AI (Artificial Intelligence) at an age appropriate level.
On Friday, I led an assembly for P1–P7 to introduce the key concepts. The children were reminded that whether they are online or offline, we want them to feel safe and happy.
We discussed what to do if they “bump into harm online”—for example, if they encounter pop ups or see something upsetting. They know they should:
🛑STOP
💻CLOSE
🗣TELL
I will be running a competition, where pupils will use their digital art skills to design a new NPS Digital Citizen. A design will be chosen from each class and then our school community will be invited to vote for their favourite.
I have been working on a new Online Safety Policy and would welcome any feedback. If you would like to comment on the policy, please email me at ehanna328@c2ken.net. (The policy has been shared via Class Dojo)
Please talk to your child about how to stay safe online. Ask them what they are doing and make sure the content they are accessing is appropriate for their age. Thank you for your support with this important matter.
